Y9 Parents' Evening

This event is starting shortly and is an opportunity for parents to talk to subject staff prior to boys choosing their options for KS4.

Trips

Next week is a very busy week for trips.

Monday - Y12 are attending a careers event organised by NCS at Bidston Golf Club.

Tuesday  - the whole of Y9 are visiting Chester University. Students will require a packed lunch, free school meal students will have a grab bag provided.

Wednesday - 12 pupils from Y10 have the chance to see and hear five of Britain’s top scientists, including Professor Robert Winston and Professor Jim Al Khalili. There is also an opportunity to help improve science GCSE results with top tips on examination success from an experienced science examiner, as well as getting to appreciate the fantastic architecture of Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. 

Thursday - Chill Factore for boys going skiing in March. Y10 - 12 in the morning, Y8 & 9 in the afternoon. Boys must have returned their medical consent form prior to the trip.

Monies are still being collected for the trips to Paris, Munich and Iceland, with a reminder that copies of passports are required in school for all trips that involve air travel.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

On Friday 7^th February, a team of staff and sixth formers will be completing the Glow Green Walk in aid of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. We will also have some events taking place in school, so everyone can be part of the fundraising effort! Please share our justgiving page if you can.

Daniel Taylor (Y13) - My reason for walking. 

My name is Daniel. I am taking part in the Glow Green Walk because of how Clatterbridge supported my mum while she was going through cancer treatment. She unfortunately passed away in October 2023 due to complications with breast cancer. Clatterbridge was a massive help in supporting her while she was going through such a rough time. She received extraordinary care throughout her time in treatment and after surgery, and I have Clatterbridge to thank for that. 

Non-uniform day on Friday 7^th February. The theme is 'wear something green' if you can! (Minimum donation of £1) to be handed in to form tutors.

Shrekathon! Suggested donation of £2 

• Periods 3 and 4 -Year 8 

• Periods 5 and 6 - Year 7

• Students will be in the hall watching Shrek.

• There will be a tuck shop run by sixth formers. 

Bake sale at morning break.

Elevate Fitness Wirral are running a special Glow Green Charity event on 6^th February 6-6:45pm. It is a Clubbercise class which costs £5 here at The Mosslands School. The class is open to all members of the community and all proceeds raised will be added to our fundraising total. Debate Mate

Well done to our Debate Mate boys, Oliver Kilty, Jack Atherton, Jaxson Clark and Ben Cavanagh who won both their debates at the event in Liverpool yesterday.

Cadets

Last week, Sergeant Bell and Mr Fox interviewed several of the cadets for promotion. They were all excellent in the interview, so it was very difficult to decide. After much deliberation, they decided to promote them all. Ashton and Blake are now corporals. The way they responded to all the questions and scenarios was excellent. As well as this, their conduct in cadets this year has been amazing. Blake, Oliver and Zac are now lance corporals. They were also excellent in their interviews and conducted themselves very well. 

As well as promotions, 15 of our cadets passed their First Class Cadet section. This is a huge achievement for our cadets. Mr Fox has been told that it is unheard of for cadets to pass their First Class in this amount of time. This shows the determination our cadets have. Only three cadets have not passed, but it will be a maximum of two weeks before they do so. 

As well as all of these great achievements, we had a visit from Squadron Leader Jez Kent. He is the School Cadet Engagement Officer for the North West. He was extremely impressed by what we have achieved so far, again a testament to how well we have done already. 

STEM Faraday Challenge

It was a hard fought and very close competition. Well done to the winning team: Leo-James, Max, Joshua-Lewis, Luis, Rhys and Jake. Special mention goes to Ewan Gault, Keyan Ali, Sreehari Mahesh, Jude Williams and Keyan Harris who were just pipped at the post to be champions.

February Half-term: Year 11 Triple Biology Exam-readiness

• As part of the preparation for external exams in biology, we are offering an intervention session for the students in 11T1 & 11T2 during February half-term.

• Mrs Little’s session will take place on: Monday 17^th February 10:00am - 2:30pm.

• If you would like your son/ward to attend this session, please book a place through MyChildAtSchool before Thursday 13^th February.

• In order to enrol your son/ward, you must have access to the My Child At School (MCAS) system.

Library

Round 2 of the Year 8 Spelling Bee took place last Friday.  Well done to those students who completed this round. A special shout out to Zak Burke who was the only student to correctly spell fulfil! Well done to every one who made it through to the quarter-finals which take place during am registration tomorrow.

The library will be running a Green Readathon on Friday 7^th February during periods 5 and 6.  Students can pay Mrs Barton £2 to spend the afternoon in the library reading and raising money for Clatterbridge Cancer Trust.  If your child would like to take part, please send them to the library with £2 as soon as possible.

If your son has been selected to attend Pig Heart Boy, please ensure you have paid for his ticket. They are being allocated on a first come, first served basis and are being snapped up quickly.

Reporting an Absence 

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.
