Strike Days

A reminder that school will be partially closed on Wednesday and Friday next week due to industrial action.

On Wednesday 5th ONLY Year 7 and 12 should attend.

On Friday 7th ONLY Year 10 and 12 should attend.

Other year groups should do remote learning via Google Classroom

Goldsmiths' Community Engagement Awards

The Goldsmiths' Community Engagement Awards, established in 2018, attracted an impressive number of entries this year, with over 173 submissions from secondary schools across the United Kingdom. These awards aim to recognise and celebrate the extracurricular endeavours of schools like ours that go above and beyond to make a positive impact on their communities.

In March, during the three-day regional heats, our students had the opportunity to showcase our community engagement activities and respond to questions from a panel of judges, eventually securing a place in the finals. This week at a ceremony in London, staff and students from our Protective Services Academy were awarded the gold medal and a generous cheque for £3,000. This financial support will enable us to further enhance the impact of our school's charitable activities and make an even greater difference in the lives of those we serve.

We are all immensely proud of this achievement by our staff and students and believe our commitment to community engagement sets an outstanding example for others.

Pupil Absence

It is important that you telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) if your child is going to be absent at the start of the day and on a daily basis thereafter.   You will receive an automated truancy call if you do not inform us, as it is our duty to ensure your child is safe. This will continue to call you on 6 occasions until a response is received.  If we cannot make contact with you then you may receive a home visit from a member of staff.

Y8 Activity Day

Year 8 will be out of school on Thursday 6th July. Letters were emailed home this week. Y8 students should arrive at school at 9.30am and go straight to the old sports hall.  They are permitted to wear their own clothes (taking into account the weather forecast for the day) and should ensure that footwear is appropriate for walking. Lunch will be provided by the school, however, students may wish to bring additional items, especially as they will be required to do a substantial amount of walking on the day. Students and staff will arrive back at school at approximately 2.30pm and once registered will be permitted to leave site and make their own way home.

Bike Marking Event

Merseyside Police will be running another bike marking day on Friday 7th July from 1pm. We are aware that this is now a strike day, but non teaching staff will be available on site with the police. If you wish the bike to be marked, please follow the link to the Google form and complete, as the police need all the details in order to properly register and mark the bicycle.

Bike marking does not mean that the police can track the whereabouts of your son! We have been asked this so many times. It is so that we can return a bike to the owner if it is stolen and later recovered. So many lads last time would have had their bikes marked if this myth wasn't being spread around.

Forms should be returned by Wednesday 5th July.

Normandy 2024

The Normandy trip is now full and we will not be accepting any more deposits. Parents will receive an email next week to confirm their child's place on the trip. Boys who did not get a place will be offered the choice of going onto a reserve list or a full refund of their deposit. The item will remain on ParentPay until refunds have been made.

New York 2025

The information meeting for parents has been rescheduled to Monday 3rd July at 6pm. The deposit will go live on ParentPay at 10am on Tuesday.

Library

On Wednesday 5th July, we have the fantastic author Chris Bradford visiting our school to work exclusively with Year 7. Chris is the author of action-packed adventure series The Last Samurai, The Bodyguard and The Soul Hunters and has also written shorter, sharper reads like Cyborg, S.P.E.A.R and Gamer.  If you would like a signed copy of one of his novels, please click this link below. Signed copies can be purchased online and Chris will bring them with him on the day to be handed out by Mrs Barton. www.burningcandle.co.uk

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
