National Manufacturing Day
National Manufacturing Day
Putting students in the driving seat!
As part of National Manufacturing Day, Mosslands students literally got the chance to be in the driving seat! Sat behind the controls of a prototype autonomous tractor, followed by an excavator and then finished off with some manual handling training involving the use of a pillar crane, our students had a great time.
During the visit an invaluable appreciation was gained of different manufacturing processes, including the importance of quality control. The students were told about the fantastic apprenticeship opportunities within the UK manufacturing sector and the wide range of highly skilled jobs from quality engineer and lab technician to financial accountant and purchasing manager. The students were also made aware how manufacturing fuels the UK economy and is a major contributor to the country’s gross domestic product.
The successful international company we visited was Husco situated in Runcorn. Husco specialize in high performance hydraulic and electro- mechanical components. They design and manufacture dedicated components for automotive and off highway applications e.g. tractors and diggers – as one student commented “their the company that make the earth move!”
