About the course:

This course is designed to be the substantive part of a 16-19 study programme for learners who want a strong core of sector study and a focus on the wider engineering industry.

It may be complemented with other BTEC Nationals or A Levels or non-qualification elements to support progression to specific job roles or to higher education courses in engineering.

 

What does this qualification cover?

Mandatory Units:

• Unit 1 – Engineering Principles
• Unit 2 – Delivery of Engineering Processes safely as a team
• Unit 3 – Engineering Product Design and Manufacture
• Unit 4 – Applied Commercial and Quality Principles in Engineering
• Unit 5 – Specialist Engineering Project

 

Optional Units:

• Unit 10 – Computer Aided Design in Engineering
• Unit 12 – Pneumatic and Hydraulic System
• Unit 13 – Welding Technology
• Unit 14 – Electrical Installation of Hardware and Cables
• Unit 25 – Mechanical Behaviour of Metallic Materials

 

Course duration:

This course is a two-year course structured in the following way:

• Monday – College
• Tuesday – Mosslands
• Wednesday – Mosslands
• Thursday – Mosslands
• Friday – College

This course is worth the equivalent of two A Levels and on the days that you attend Mosslands you will study for a third Level 3 subject usually IT.

You will be expected to make your own way to College and the hours are 8.30am – 4pm.

PPE will be provided by the College.

Entry Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 passes at GCSE, namely a 4 in English and a 5 in Maths and Science.
• Previous Engineering knowledge is desirable but not essential.
