About the course:

Psychology is an exciting area of study with a growing interest and focus on genetics, cognition, neurology and environmental influences, there has never been a more exciting time to study Psychology.

 AS Psychology

  • Social influence - looks at conformity, social roles and obedience in society.
  • Memory - investigates the way in which we process and retain information, why we forget things and the effect of leading questions.
  • Attachment - focuses on the relationship between care givers and those that are cared for.
  • Approaches in psychology – looks at the variety of ways in which Psychology can be approached and interpreted.
  • Psychopathology - allows students to see what happens when mental health deviates from good, focusing on Schizophrenia.
  • Research methods - shows students how Psychologists investigate the world around them.

A2 Psychology

The A level course revisits the topics from AS in greater depth but also includes

  • Gender
  • Cognition and development
  • Schizophrenia
  • Eating disorders
  • Stress
  • Aggression
  • Forensic Psychology
  • Addiction

What is expected of you:

You will be expected to attend all lessons and complete all tasks on time. You will need to have a passion for the workings of the human mind and be able to cope with the pressures of a demanding course.

Entry requirements:

At least five 5-9 grades at GCSE.

Students who wish to take Psychology at A-level need to achieve at least a 6 in English and Science (Biology) GCSE subjects
