A Message from Mr. Whiteley
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support over this very long term.
My congratulations go to the 381 boys who are still in the 100% club for attendance. They will be in a special assembly for a treat on Friday morning!
For Y11 students, I would like to pass on my congratulations for a very successful Futures Day on Tuesday. The staff were really impressed with the way in which the vast majority of the students engaged with the level 3 subjects they studied, especially those subjects with which they are less familiar, such as psychology, digital media, photography and uniformed services. Teachers also praised their willingness to participate in the various activities, such as the organ dissections in biology or the sports trip to the climbing wall. Hopefully, this will provide an insight into the range of possibilities open to them for next year.
Other highlights from Tuesday’s activities were the Y10 problem-solving activities (particularly the brilliant bake-off and the hilarious Zorb football), and the Y8 trip to the Liverpool museums. I was delighted to hear from a colleague at the museum who wrote to me to say “A large group of your students visited the museum this morning. I just wanted to let you know that their conduct and behaviour was excellent and a credit to the school and staff.” This is a suitable end to a really productive and enjoyable term.
Next year is set to be an exciting one. As you may have seen in the local press, the school is at last on course to be replaced with a state of the art new building and sports fields, something for which I have been campaigning for a very long time, and which our students thoroughly deserve. This is set to start in the new year.
Coming quickly over the horizon in the new term are the New York sports tour and the ski trip. Students involved in these trips should make sure that they have their passports etc. ready to be brought into school at the appropriate times.
On Friday 7th February, Sixth Form students and many staff members are taking part in the Glow Green Night Walk to raise funds for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. Any parents who would like to get involved would be welcome, as would any donations.
School closes at lunchtime tomorrow, pupils will be able to leave from 12.40pm. School re-opens on Monday, January 6th at the normal time. The school office will also be closed during the holiday period. I thank you once again for your continuing support.
I wish you all a peaceful and merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
