Y11 Next Week

Y11 will be taking part in careers mock interviews next week. Boys should already be aware of the date and time of their interview. On Friday 6th December, the Y11 timetable is suspended and boys have been invited in for a meeting to discuss their mock exam results and their plans for the future. Boys who are attending just for their results do not need to wear school uniform. Boys who have their mock interview on the same day are required to wear their uniform as normal.

Nasal Flu Jabs Y7-11

These are happening on Tuesday. Please see the attached letter (which was emailed home several weeks ago) for further information.

Christmas Festivities

On Thursday 12th December, pupils will be allowed to wear a Christmas jumper alongside their normal school uniform and make a £2 donation to charity if they wish.  Christmas dinner will also be served in the canteen that day, there will be a vegetarian option available too.  Pupils that do not normally have school dinners are welcome to join us.

Our Protective Services Academy will be collecting items to make into hampers for our local residents. They are looking for donations of:

Non-perishable items such as:

  • Mince pies
  • Christmas pudding
  • Chocolate
  • Biscuits
  • Crackers
  • Fudge
  • Jams
  • Tea
  • Coffee

In the spirit of inclusivity, non-Christmas-specific food items are also welcome. Any such donations will be redirected to a local food bank, ensuring no contribution goes to waste, and all support is valued.

Attendance

Mr Wood's form, 9G3, were our best attenders this week. They have consistently been the top attending form in Year 9 since September. This is a great team effort. Well done 9G3 and Mr Wood. We hope you enjoyed your sweets and chocolates.  Which form will win the trophy next time?

Drama

We are delighted to welcome students from LIPA into school next week to deliver performances to years 7 and 8. The week after that, our drama students in years 10, 12 and 13 will be going over to Liverpool to see a performance at LIPA and to have a tour of the facilities.

New York Trip Place Available

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there is a last minute place available on the New York sports tour in March 2025 for any student in years 9 or 10. The cost of the tour is £1720. Any student who applies for the place will need a passport that is valid until at least 30/9/25. Anyone who is interested should email Mr Kershaw on thomaskershaw@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

Cadets

Last week, our Year 9 cadets visited the Inskip Cadet Centre along with 25 prospective cadets in Year 8. Whilst at the centre, they enjoyed a wide range of activities including archery, abseiling, low ropes and flight simulators. They were all excellent throughout the stay, and they should be extremely proud of themselves.

Next week, Y9 cadets will be taking part in an activity day in school.

Library

Round 2 of the Spelling Bee took place last week with another fantastic turn out from our Y7 students! Well done to all the boys that went through to the quarter-finals, which will be taking place tomorrow during am reg.

Food Allergy Awareness

Please could all parents/carers ensure we have up-to-date allergy and dietary information for their son. In all school years, students may be involved in tasting and cooking a variety of different foods. We will accommodate for allergies and dietary needs, but only if we are made aware beforehand.

Reporting an Absence 

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school.
