New York Trip Meeting

Don't forget there is a meeting for parents tonight at 6pm in the school hall.

Paris 2025

If your son would like to go on the Paris trip, and he was on the priority list for his interest in languages or for choosing a language at GCSE, please can you pay the £150 deposit before Monday 1^st July. All spaces have currently been taken. However, priority will be given to those pupils and some pupils may move onto the reserve list if paid already. Induction Evening

Last night, we welcomed our new starters into school to meet their form tutors and pastoral staff. We look forward to welcoming them again when they visit us for the day on Wednesday.

Y7 Birkenhead Priory Trip

Our Year 7 students enjoyed a trip to Birkenhead Priory last week to help with their understanding of medieval life on the Wirral.

Normandy Trip

Our students are having an amazing time in Normandy this week, visiting historical sites relating to WW2. We look forward to hearing all about their trip when they return to school tomorrow.

Y9 Workshops

This week, Wirral Youth Justice Service delivered a series of workshops called 'In The Zone', for all Year 9 students.

Wirral Youth Justice Service is a multi-agency service, made up of social workers, youth justice workers and staff from education, police, probation and health.  It engages with young people (and their families) using restorative practices to address risk and vulnerability issues to prevent offending and anti-social behaviour. It supports young people to make appropriate lifestyle choices and increase their own safety and wellbeing.

Students responded very positively to all the workshops and were a credit to the school.

Careers

On Thursday 4^th July, a group of pupils will be attending the launch event for "Wallasey Pledge". This is an exciting new scheme that will see our students further their employability skills and allow us to develop more links with employers.

As we approach the end of the school year, we would encourage all students to log into their Unifrog account to update their profile, (Unifrog.org). 

Unifrog.org is the careers platform used in school.

They will be emailed to their school email address to remind them to do this. Their login is their school email, and they can reset their password using the link if they have forgotten it.

Following our successful Year 10 work experience fortnight in March, we are pleased to announce that next year's Y10 will also have this opportunity (10^th-22^nd March 2025). While the formal launch will take place in September, we are asking our current Y9 students to approach employers over the summer to find a self-placement. They will have a presentation in form time in the coming weeks.

A group of Year 9 students are taking part in Merseyside Young Health and Life Sciences scheme with The University of Liverpool and will be visiting the university on 3rd July.

Drama Club - Back in September!

Due to various school events and trips, Drama Club has now finished for this year. Mrs Brett would like to thank the regular attenders for their fantastic energy, commitment and creativity that they have brought to each Friday afternoon this year. You have been a joy!

Mrs Brett looks forward to the new term and welcoming new faces. 

Sound City Careers Day

On Tuesday, a group of students enjoyed an inspiring and interactive day at Wirral Metropolitan College under the tutelage of Sound City. The event gave students an insight into a varied range of topics within the music industry via a series of guest talks exploring their personal journeys into the music industry, a careers fair and fun workshops, fostering an authentic feel for the huge range of roles that the music world has to offer for every set of skills.

Geography Fieldwork

Last week, the Year 10 GCSE geography students all had an opportunity to see geography in action in North Wales, whilst studying the River Alyn and Moel Famau. The sun was shinning, and the students enjoyed their fieldwork over the 4 days, gaining knowledge and collecting data for their GCSE exams.

Library

In honour of Pride Month, our Book of the Week is the graphic novel Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman. This delightful book went on to be an award-winning Netflix series and depicts Charlie and Nicks' relationship in a positive and heart-warming way. This graphic novel is already a hit with our students and regularly gets taken out of the library. All of this series is available to take out now!

Reporting an Absence 

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.
