New York Trip

There will be a meeting for parents on Thursday 27^th June at 6pm in the school hall.

Y8 Cadet Camp

Last week, 34 Y8 students embarked on a two-day cadet recruitment residential. On the first day, the students took part in team building activities led by Mr Fox. After a late night, they all eventually went asleep and none of them were too happy about the 7am alarm call the following morning!

Day 2 was action packed with paintballing, marksmanship, abseiling, rock climbing and low ropes. They all thoroughly enjoyed their time and are excited to start their cadet journey in September. 

Zac Hughes won the award for best marksman. 

Ellis Harding won the best cadet award for his brilliant efforts cleaning and encouraging others in his group. 

Fundraising

Evan Cooper, one of our Y12 students, wanted to try and raise some money for a local food bank and asked if he could create a painting and sell it.

He has painted this beautiful piece and called it " Memories" He played a piece of music by The Beatles - In My Life, and just painted what fell onto the board.

The painting sold for an incredible £100. Well done to Evan and the generous buyer of the painting.

The Liverpool City Region Youth Combined Authority are recruiting new members to join the group from a variety of geographical areas, social backgrounds, diversity and disability.

The Youth Combined Authority (YCA) meets online in small groups to discuss key issues affecting the Liverpool City Region.

These are split into five areas:

Employment and Skills

Energy and the Environment

Culture

Transport

The group empowers the voice of young people in the Liverpool City Region by giving the opportunity for them to feed their views back to policy leads at the Combined Authority, influencing decision-makers.

Social Media and messaging apps

The messaging app teen-chat.org (amongst others) is causing issues amongst members of the school community across all year groups. 

Some instances of misuse of these messaging apps have resulted in interventions from the police.

Can we remind parents and carers to talk to their children and check the apps and services being used by them?

We are honouring Refugee Week which commences next week. Our Book of the Week is an anthology of poems called Choose Love by Nicola Davies and Petr Horáček. In this moving sequence of poems, Nicola Davies’s text combines with the illustrations of Petr Horáček to provide insight into the real-life experiences of refugees forced to leave their homes and previous lives behind to face an unknown future. Suffused with compassion and understanding, the work invites you to share in these stories in the hope of building greater awareness and empathy for the struggles faced by so many, and to choose love as our response.

Reporting an Absence 

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.
