The Science Curriculum

Science is a very important subject because it helps us understand the world around us. Everything we know about the universe, from how plants grow, how we make medicines, how to make mobile phones to how hot the sun is, is the result of scientific research and experiments.

When you join in year 7 you will have 9 lessons a fortnight of science. You will have 3 different teachers each teaching you about Biology, Chemistry and Physics which are the three strands of Science.

Biology is the study of living things such as humans, plants and animals- In year 7 you will learn about cells which are the building blocks of life, Reproduction and Organs of the body.

Chemistry is the study of structures and properties of chemicals and their reactions- In year 7 you will learn about Particles, Atoms, Elements, Mixtures, Compounds and Chemical Reactions.

Physics is the study of the physical universe around us- In year 7 you will learn about Forces, Gravity, Energy and Electricity.

Google Classroom

We have set up a Google Classroom for Science. You can find videos and tasks which can keep you busy until you join us in September!

You need to copy and paste the code as it is case sensitive.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

You will have many opportunities to do experiments both in lessons and in clubs outside of lesson time. There will be opportunities to join in competitions where we regularly beat other schools on top of learning about the big ideas in science which will give you a better understanding of the world around you.

We also have science club, animal club and lego club that you can join at lunch times and after school.

Follow @MosslandsSTEAM to have a look at what we get up to before you arrive.

We can't wait for you to join us at Mosslands and help you to become scientists of the future.
