Science Live at Brimingham University
Science Live
This week, a group of 6th Form students attended a Science Live event, held in the palatial grandeur of Birmingham University’s Great Hall. Students were exposed to an abundance of scientific minds. A plethora of professors, full of enthusiasm, all displaying their great passion for their fields of research. Many students’ favourite speaker was Dr Tim Lamont, who explained the amazing concept of how underwater acoustics affect the quantity of both fish and coral in reef environments and how this has been used to aid the regeneration of coral reefs that have been decimated by climate change. Much fun was had by all, during a scientific talk about laughter and how it’s easy for humans to “catch a laugh”, which counter-balanced another talk on understanding mental health. Overall, students had an entertaining and thought-provoking day, as well as picking up invaluable exam hints from acclaimed examiner Michelle Oldfield.
