Careers Education Programme

The Mosslands School Careers Department are keen to build up a network of former students who would be willing to contribute to our Careers Education Programme.

The Mosslands School Careers Department are keen to build up a network of former students who would be willing to contribute to our Careers Education Programme. This could involve offering workshops to groups of students interested in the field you work in, offering a work placement, supporting out Mock Interview scheme or any other activities you wish to suggest.

In this academic year we have had three former students contribute to careers events. One of these is Karl Mercer who has outlined his careers so far below.

“I started life at Mosslands in 1994 and left after 6th form in 2000. Anyone who has been to Mosslands knows about the house system and how competitive it can be and will understand when I say Faraday rock!

I left Mosslands in 2000 and went to Wirral Met and Reaseheath College to study countryside management. I know in school you are young and what you want to do in life doesn’t always plan out the way you wanted it to. I wanted to work as a countryside ranger but ended up with my first job at Blockbuster Video. It was an enjoyable job but I found that my life would take another turn and I started to find computing more fun and looked for a career in IT. I started working for Telewest Communications in 2006 and quickly progressed through the company. I worked as a Learning & development officer, team manager and project team leader helping transform the company to Virgin Media and combine the mobile phone company with NTL & Telewest.

In 2012 Virgin Media decided to move operations to India and as it was hard enough to get a train to Liverpool, India would be even harder. I took my redundancy and started my own company. I now own Crash Entertainment that provides movies, games & accessories & MFM an online radio station. Both jobs have let me travel around the world and I have got to chat to some famous people. In 2013 I started to run for independent Councillor of Seacombe and I have been fighting for the people who live and work in the area. I also became a governor for Mosslands School in 2013 and I’m proud to be back at Mosslands and supporting the school”.
